After graduating from Tokyo Designer Gakuin College he joined Tsuchida Production in 1976. In 1983 he left the struggling studio to create his own animation studio, Studio 501. Between 1987 and 1988 he was working for Disney Japan before he became freelance in 1989. He went on to work mostly for Shin-Ei Animation during this time, directing and storyboarding many Shin-chan episodes for the studio.
